POST 1:

After the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 the role of the police changed drastically from that of being responsible to prevent local crimes to now having to be trained on how to detect and ready to deal with terrorist living here in the United States. Our nation quickly realized that the department of homeland security was not equipped with the proper training to deal with such tragedy. Police officers are now responsible for more than Part I and Part II offenses that are committed in the United States, they also have to keep an eye out for possible terrorist activities. Activities such as monitoring extremist groups, working with other intelligence companies to be informed when certain activities will happen. Keep tabs on certain groups and respond to every call that may be related to terrorist acts. Most people affiliate terrorism with the Middle East, however homegrown terrorism has become a huge issue in the United States and after the terrorist act of September 11, 2001 police officers are more equipped and trained to protect and serve the citizens of the United States.

POST 2:

Most fundamentally, 9/11 forever changed the mission of police departments in the nation.Beat cops are the eyes and the ears of public safety on the street. Street cops have a homeland security mission, whether as part of a formal agency strategy, a particular duty assignment, or simply a new facet to our perpetual role as the first line of protection for our communities. Some of the most significant post-9/11 changes to law enforcement are seen in the developing role of the street cop as a homeland security protector. No longer could intelligence gathering be a task limited to part of the detective division. Huge dilemma faced by police departments today: They must determine how to defend against organized terrorism as well as the seemingly random acts of criminal, crazy or just wildly disgruntled individuals.

POST 3:

The role of Law Enforcement following September 11, 2001 has increased significantly. More agencies are buying heavier equipment to include armored vehicles just in case something happens in their area as well as others. I live in an area that has five military bases, beaches, airports, and ports where ships from around the world docks at.  Every year the local police department holds a training exercise at the airport and goes through scenarios like a terrorist attack.  I can see Fire trucks, ambulances, Public Transportation, the Sheriff Office, college and university police Departments responding in real life to help the injured and deceased.   You also see more visibility through police presence, upgraded security systems, and citizens who are vigilant of their surrounding and will call police if something does not see right.
