Assignment Instructions

Summarize (as appropriate for your study) research design issues, to include: definitions or operationalization of key variables, identification of study population, sampling procedures to be employed, justification of case studies selected, and data collection methods planned or secondary data to be utilized.  Summarize (as appropriate for your study) the analytic methods to be employed, including software packages to be employed, modeling procedures to be used, or statistical or other analysis procedures to be used for individual hypothesis tests. Note that any number of methods may be employed including qualitative methodology, comparative analysis, historical analysis or survey research.

For this assignment, provide a title page, student name, date, course, date, name of assignment. The following format must be used and each bullet point must be addressed.

Summarize (as appropriate for your study) research design issues, to include:

  • hypothesis or hypotheses (please see the AMU library and class announcements on how to formulate a hypothesis
  • definitions or operationalization of key variables (operalization refers to placing variables in a format such that they can be measure – variables must be able to be measured to determine how much impact one variable has on another)
  • identification of study population if survey research will be used (for example, if the research is directed toward determining causes of police misconduct, if only one police agency is used as an example of variables considered such as training, leadership, recruiting, etc. all having an impact on police misconduct statistic, a rational explanation must be provided why the police agency selected for the study will accurately reflect what is occurring in all police agencies across the country)
  • sampling procedures to be employed if survey research will be used (in the above example of police misconduct, it would obviously be impossible to collect data from the thousands of law enforcement agencies across the country – representative samples must be done if a survey is used – how are the sample agencies selected and why)
  • justification of case studies selected, if case studies is selected for the analysis
  • data collection methods planned or secondary data to be utilized.
