Linear programming, assignment help

Gorilla Glass is an alkali-aluminosilicate (which is the raw material and for simplicity we will call it just silicate) toughened glass that Corning Inc developed and currently manufacturers. This glass is used as the cover glass for electronic devices such as mobile phones. To create Gorilla Glass the silicate is sent through three processes.Process 1 melts the silicate, process 2 molds the glass and in process 3 the glass is sent through an ion exchange which strengthens the glass (process 1 happens first followed by process 2 and so on).We are going to consider producing 3 Gorilla Glass products: large cover Gorilla Glass which is used for digital signage and displays, Gorilla Glass 4 which is used in portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and Gorilla Glass NBT which is used on notebooks. The table below shows the information related to the manufacture and sale of these 3 products (Large Cover Gorilla Glass, Gorilla Glass 4 and the Gorilla Glass NBT) (please note that the above information is correct but the information below is fictional).

The machines are available 20 hours per day, 6 days per week. Each week our suppliers supply 1000 kilograms of silicate.Your task is to decide what mix of the 3 products (Large Cover Gorilla Glass, Gorilla Glass 4, and Gorilla Glass NBT) will maximize profits.

  • Formulate algebraically a linear programming model for this problem. (5 marks)
  • Solve this problem using Excel. (5 marks)
  • If your silicate supplier was to make available another 200 Kg of silicate per week at your current price, would you purchase the extra 200Kg?Briefly explain (5 marks)
