E-Receipts

Professor and Class,
I love E-Receipts and I am so glad so many stores are jumping on board with this concept. Before everyone started going electronic, I had several folders full of check stubs, receipts and bills. I am the kind of person who likes to keep a record of everything because you never know when you may need proof of something in the future. Now that stores are offering the option to have your receipt emailed to you I can create a folder on my laptop and thus eliminate the folder full of receipts dated five years back down in my basement.
As the chapter mentioned, many stores are using this as an opportunity to advertise to the consumer. I think this is a great idea, but also find it annoying sometimes. When I check my email I do not want to be overwhelmed with multiple emails that are usually of no value to me. I try to keep my email organized and often find myself shooting the advertisement into a separate folder labeled “junk”. There are only a select few stores that I will allow their advertising into my regular folder and that is because I shop there regularly. For those stores, it is to their benefit to email me because when I see a good sale going on I am rushing over and often end up purchasing more than what I originally intended. So in that instance E-Receipts are an excellent idea because it lures the customer in and causes them to spend more money.
