Assignment

Concerned about the soaring number of overweight children and sensing an opportunity to fill a much-needed niche in the fast-food industry, your group has decided that the time has come to open a healthful fast-food restaurant. You are modeling your children’s menu on successful fast-food children’s meals.

Select a fast food children’s meal that has had successful sales, and model your meal after your selection. Develop a menu item that provides more nutritional density than the fast-food children’s meal you are modeling but that holds the same appeal for children. Name your meal, and discuss how you will present it on the menu and how you will package it. You must analyze your meal using My Plate Tracker, (http://www.choosemyplate.gov/), and discuss at least 4 specific differences that make your meal more nutritious than the meal you are modeling. Nutritional information for various fast-food restaurants can be found online.

Group Project Forum

This Discussion Forum is an area for the completion of your group project, both individual and group components. In addition to general discussion of the group, there are requirements as outlined below to demonstrate group participation of each member.

While the forum is used for general discussion and collaboration, the following two sections must be completed to receive credit. Your participation in this forum is directly related to the grade you receive in the group project.

Part 1: Group Member Posting – must be posted in the forum 4 days prior to the assignment due date.

Part 2: Project Summary Posting – must be posted by the assignment due date.

Part 1:

Group Member Posting: Within the Discussion Forum area, post the following:

  • Students are required to post to the forum their individual portion of the group project. This individual portion will demonstrate the student involvement and will be incorporated into the student’s grade.

Part 2:

Project Summary Posting: Your responses should be posted after the Group Member Posting (Part 1). Write a 75 word summary explaining what research methods and resources you used to complete your individual portion of the project.

Individual Portion

  • Research fast-food meals for children and their nutrition information, and develop a meal item that includes an entrée, side dish, and beverage. Remember that your meal must be comparable to those offered by fast-food restaurants: no turkey sandwiches and carrot sticks if the fast-food meal you are modeling is a burger and fries.
  • Use My Plate Tracker to analyze your meal to ensure that it is more nutrient dense than the meal you are modeling. You may use markers such as fat or sodium content, vitamin and mineral content, fiber content, and so on. Explain the differences that make your meal more nutritious. Your analysis should be in 2–4 pages (http://www.choosemyplate.gov/).
  • Turn in your My Plate Food Record and Nutrient Analysis Report by either cutting and pasting into a Word document or printing as a PDF document.
  • Name your meal, and design a menu descriptor and package that will entice children to want to try your product.

Please add your file.

Group Portion

  • As a group, compile a PowerPoint presentation showing your package designs.
  • Each member should provide 2–4 slides that summarize his or her findings.
  • As a group, create a comparison of nutritional information between each of the group members’ meals, and explain how each meal does or does not meet recommended dietary guidelines.
  • As a group, come to a conclusion regarding which of your group members’ meals are both the most nutritious and the most appealing to children.
  • Analyze your selection, and discuss what specifically makes this the best option for a children’s fast-food menu.
  • Use academic and professional sources to support your response. All references should be documented in APA format.

Please add your file.

You will be graded on the following:
