Personal interactions between police Officers and community members build mutual trust, which is essential to addressing neighborhood problems and reducing crime. Police officials should see themselves as a part of the community they serve, and local government officials, police leaders, and community members should encourage the active involvement of officers as participants to help maintain the peace. For example, police officials may be invited to participate in peace marches, to attend local sporting events, or to attend neighborhood barbeques or outdoor community “movie nights” for kids.  If our focus is on disorder and less serious crime in our neighborhoods that have not yet been overtaken by serious crime, they can help reduce fear and resident withdrawal. Promoting higher levels of informal social control will help residents themselves take control of their neighborhood and prevent serious crime from infiltrating. Police officers need to become more involve in programs such as neighborhood watch and open programs that involve youth such as the G.R.E.A.T. or D.A.R.E. programs that teach students about Drug and gang resistance. Gangs in neighborhoods are the major problems for graffiti, turf wars and illicit activities. Like the Broken window policing project said if one window is broken and not fix at the end of the day all the other windows will be broken because that is a sign that people don’t care. If people don’t care about what happens in their neighborhood the odds of them reporting it to the police are slim to none.  That’s why if police Officers keep streets orderly and punish even the small signs of criminal activity with a warning or an arrest, people will behave in a more orderly way. Citizens of our community will gain trust of Police Officers and will report the slightest misbehavior of the neighborhood.Police Leaders should try and interact with local business, schools and churches. Talk to the people of the community as far as what type of problems can be addressed. Never promise something you can’t keep because people hate false promises and that just deteriorates the relationship between the community and the police. As leaders in community policing we have to evolve with the new types of crime. What worked 30 years ago may not work today. Now a days we have what’s called as cyber crimes. We have to adapt to society and advances. Personal has to be trained for the new type of crimes. As a leader you have to be involved directly in combating any type of crime and talk to citizens and explained to them what is happening. Transparency is the key to a successful relationship with our citizens. Implementation of body cameras and vehicle cameras should be used as a tool even if the officer conducted himself in an unprofessional manner. Officers should be dealt accordingly and advise the citizens of the officers misconduct immediately and that he is being investigated. Officers involved shootings videos should be released immediately to avoid any bad relations with society.  That is why it is crucial for a police department to get involved in applying problem solving techniques. The Role of Leadership in Creating and Sustaining a Problem-Solving Approach to Policing: The History of Organizational Transformation in the Madison Police Department   by :Kristen Roman
